Body Dysmorphia Awareness Campaign

spring 2023

My body dysmorphia campaign was a multi-faceted project in the form of a poster and art installation. The poster’s goal was to raise awareness for the common disorder, and help those with the disorder to feel less alone. My installation was set up next to the poster as an almost photo-booth raising awareness for body dysmorphia. The installation was shown in the Miami University Art and Architecture library for a full semester.

Poster

The poster has a dark serious feel for the more grave content. I wanted the imagery to be very prominent and fully capture the feeling of not knowing what you look like. The larger header is used to draw the audience in, while the supporting text is informational and helpful in describing the disorder. I also added a link for the audience to use to seek help once they might realise they have body dysmorphia, since this disorder is uncommonly diagnosed professionally.

Art Installation

To help raise awareness in a more engaging way I set up 50 1inx1in mirrors. These mirrors I slightly warped and attached to the wall centimeters apart to exaggerate the distorted reflection. I then added turquoise heart stickers I laser cut to the mirrors to show self-love and worth over the warped image looking back at the viewer. This give the impression that it is okay to not understand your appearance because you are loved and beautiful regardless.
